These things were not easy to type on. But this is similar to the typewriters I learned on. Would you believe there is no "Erase" button, no "Copy" or "Paste" button, no "Save" button and no way to change the color of the type unless you used a colored ribbon?

I took typing my freshman year in high school. It was a wise choice as it turned out to be invaluable.

I remember these typewriters! And I was grateful when IBM came up with the "element" (a little round ball with sharp edges on the bottom), which enabled me to type more quickly and efficiently. With the element, all the letters and punctuation were on it and it turned as you typed, and there was never the risk of any keys getting stuck together like on the typewriter in your photo. :)
